INTRODUCING THE GRYPHON HC (HEALTHCARE) SCANNER

Datalogic Scanning is pleased to announce that the successful GryphonTM series of scanners has been further expanded with the introduction of the new Gryphon HC (healthcare) models. Gryphon HC is a series of products which include linear imagers available in corded and cordless models, all targeted at providing the healthcare industry with products able to satisfy the needs of anti-microbial enclosures. These new HC products are manufactured with special materials creating a disinfectant-ready housing which is treated with anti-microbial additives.

The key mission of scanners in the healthcare industry is to improve the quality of patient care while reducing medical errors and the associated costs. For these reasons, governments worldwide are implementing or considering regulations to reduce and prevent medical errors. As a result, hospitals are now being required to implement a series of solutions in order to be compliant with new regulations. Bar code scanning has been introduced into the healthcare industry and has proven to be very effective in meeting these new regulations, greatly reducing medical errors and contributing to the lowering of medical costs due to errors.

One of the challenges of data capture solutions in the healthcare environment has been the need for scanning devices capable of being cleaned and sanitized with harsh disinfectant solutions to effectively fight germs and bacteria. Additionally, scanning devices are still needed to provide applications in both public and private healthcare organizations. This represents a great opportunity for bar code manufacturers to introduce their products into this market segment with specifically tailored products.

The solution provided by the Gryphon HC models is a newly constructed enclosure created with a special plastic material available in a color fitting for hospital decor. The goal is to have this scanner recognizable within a healthcare environment as a device that is capable of being anti-microbial in nature.
Special materials have been incorporated into this enclosure: Xenoy has been used in the plastics and Desmopan has been used in the rubber mixture. Both are cleanser-resistant materials allowing harsh anti-bacterial solutions to be used for cleaning, while providing strength to the enclosure to avoid mechanical cracking, discoloration and loosening of the rubber grip. These special materials also strengthen the enclosure, allowing the Gryphon to avoid these 3 drawbacks which result due to the use of cleaning materials:

-Reduction of the overall life of the product with an economical impact to the owner due to downtime, repair costs and eventually premature replacement of scanners.

-Lessening of the bar code scanning capability and reliability of the data capture solution.

-Capability of complying with the rights of the patients in obtaining quick and secure data regarding medical treatment.
