SOFTWARE/CONTENT MANAGEMENT – As always, the software content is the driving factor behind the solution. Digital display software ranges from simple one-station static images to more complex capabilities allowing multiple users; having content scheduling capability; and integrating live data and running various media formats as requested. Even more robust solutions allow for centralized network content management and troubleshooting and delivering customized messages and targeted ads throughout a LAN or WAN, via wired or wireless connectivity.
DISPLAYS – Digital displays are simply computer monitors, commercial-grade panels or even LCD-TVs that visually show the digital signage messaging. Flat Panel Displays are usually referred to as FPDs, or LCD-TV’s (the same monitors with built in TV-tuners). Sizes vary, but most displays used in commercial signage applications range from 32” to 65” (a 42” screen is one of the most common, but larger displays are also available, 65” up to 103”). Glass types include the most popular LCD screen; Plasma displays are still hanging on; and the emerging LED and next-generation OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode), a thinner, faster, brighter film technology that is still too expensive in larger screen formats. For the next few years, most channel experts agree that commercial grade LCD panels will be the preferred choice for Digital Signage
MEDIA PLAYERS – Media players are simply compact PC’s or processors that drive the display and run the application. Media players are usually a commercial grade product and normally have a smaller footprint. They often reside within enclosures or mounts attached to the backs of the panels.
CONNECTIVITY COMPONENTS AND PERIPHERALS – Audio-Video cables, switches, hubs, routers, receivers and a variety of mounts, stands and brackets could be required to connect the solution together and onto the network. In some cases, the primary display manufacturers will provide most of the bundled HW connectivity, or we will integrate existing vendor’s products such as Cables-to-Go, Belkin, Cradle Point, Aboundi, Peerless and others into our customized solutions. You don’t have to sell all audio/video accessories to be a successful DS solutions provider.
KIOSKS and VIDEO WALLS - In addition to standard in-store signage the key components listed here can also be integrated into a “kiosk” which might have some other user interface functions, such as card input and receipt and coupon printing. Video walls can also be used for a larger, more dramatic impact, with 3x4 panel configurations and other AV capabilities and options built in.
