DOD mandates for RFID deployment:

Supplying to the Department of Defense (DOD) requires following certain Government guidelines and requirements. These include using RFID technology for enhanced visibility of the location and movement of military assets globally. This wide-area workflow system is also facilitating improved payment cycles to system integrators and suppliers.

Starting in 2007, RFID tagging is now required for all DOD manufacturers and suppliers who have new contracts. These include the following implementation guidelines:

• All classes of supply require RFID tags on all individual cases
• All pallets require RFID tags
• All unit packs for unique identification (UID) items require RFID tags
• RFID tagging will be required on commodities that will be tagged which are shipped to any DOD location that has been instrumented.
• All shipments will require the use of GEN 2 tags
