GSM
Global System for Mobile Communications is a second generation technology used by AT&T among many others globally with data speeds up to 9600 bps.

HSDPA
High Speed Downlink Packet Access is a third generation cellular technology with downlink speeds up to 14.4 Mbps. It is used by AT&T in the United States.

PAN
Personal Area Networks are used for short range data and voice communication. A common example of PAN communication is sending data from a mobile computer to a mobile printer.

UMTS
Universal Mobile Telecommunications System is a third generation communication technology used by AT&T with uplink speeds up to 384 Kbps and downlink speeds up to 2000 Kbps.

WLAN
Wireless Local Area Network is a type of wireless communication technology that uses an access point or access port / wireless switch to communicate with mobile devices. 802.11a/b/g/n are examples of WLAN technology and are typically used inside a four wall structure because of their low cost and a range limited to 35 meters.

WWAN
Wireless Wide Area Network is communication for data and voice that uses a cellular tower network.
